Balamban Cebu is the Final Journey of President Ramon Magsaysay

THE FINAL JOURNEY OF PRESIDENT RAMON MAGSAYSAY is on Mt Manunggal Balamban Cebu

There is a place in the mountains of Balamban, Cebu, that has become a significant part of Philippine history—Mount Manunggal.

On March 17, 1957, Ramon Magsaysay, the seventh President of the Philippines, boarded a Philippine Air Force Douglas C-47 aircraft named "Mt. Pinatubo." The plane had departed from Cebu and was bound for Manila.

However, during the flight that night, one of the engines lost power. The aircraft failed to maintain a safe altitude and crashed into the slopes of Mount Manunggal in Balamban, Cebu.

President Magsaysay perished in the accident. The official NHCP historical marker states that he died when the *Mt. Pinatubo*—the plane he was aboard—crashed on March 17, 1957.

The tragedy plunged the entire nation into deep mourning. The following day, Acting President Carlos P. Garcia issued Proclamation No. 397, declaring a national period of mourning from March 18 to April 17, 1957.

Over the years, Mount Manunggal has become a site for commemorating Magsaysay and the others who lost their lives in the accident. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) maintains a historical marker at the site, which was installed in 1988. NHCP records designate it as a site/event historical marker located at Mount Manunggal, Barangay Sunog, Balamban, Cebu. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) registry also lists Mount Manunggal as a National Historical Landmark and the site of an NHCP Historical Marker, commemorating the crash site of the plane carrying President Ramon Magsaysay.

Thus, Mount Manunggal is not merely a mountain destination in Cebu; it is a site that commemorates one of the most significant tragedies in the nation's history—the death of President Ramon Magsaysay in 1957.

Today, the name Mount Manunggal remains a symbol of remembrance for the president and the others who lost their lives on that tragic day.

Governor Pam Baricuatro or Former Governor Gwen Garcia

Governor Pam Baricuatro or Former Governor Gwen Garcia, who is your Bet?

I am not a political analyst, nor am I an expert in tracking their actions or their grasp of governance.

I am simply being honest based on my limited experience and the things I’ve quietly observed in their circles.

1. FORMER GOVERNOR GWENDOLYN GARCIA

When it comes to Gov. Gwen, I have never seen a governor who is more intelligent and hardworking than she is. Gwen is tough because she has the substance to back it up. She cannot be swayed or deceived. Period!

You could say that if you want someone to champion the cause of the entire province of Cebu, she is the one. She will truly fight for you; she won't back down against anyone. Gwen is simply Gwen!

The only downside (since no one is perfect) is that she has a fiery temper. She has made several mayors cry after scolding them severely. Yet, no one dared to complain because, well, it was Gwen—she is tough and capable.

2. GOVERNOR PAMELA "PAM" BARICUATRO

As for Gov. Pam, Cebuanos felt that her victory was incredibly lucky. She had no powerful backers, no political machinery, and very limited political experience. Even I couldn't believe she managed to defeat Gwen. She was at a massive disadvantage when it came to alliances and financial resources.

Now that she has assumed office, we know that Gov. Pam is still finding her footing and moving slowly. Gov. Pam is a far cry from Gwen when it comes to the job and the administration of Cebu. Many have questioned her competence and decision-making, wondering if she is truly up to the task of being governor—especially since she succeeded Gov. Gwen (who was the best governor of her time). Gov. Pam faces a lot of mockery and criticism during her term.

However, what I’ve noticed about Gov. Pam is that she is very down-to-earth; she is easy to approach, easy to talk to, and easy to ask for help. When she runs into a mayor, for instance, they can simply put an arm around her shoulder and whisper their requests. That is the great thing about Pam: even if her plans and actions are modest in scale, the people around her feel a sense of openness and freedom.

What is your take on their leadership styles? Everyone has their own perspective, and this is mine.

Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is now detained at the Quezon City Jail due to the plunder

With former House Speaker Martin Romualdez now detained at the Quezon City Jail due to the plunder charges he is facing,

Officials from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology carried out the Sandiganbayan's order to transfer Romualdez to the jail facility after doctors confirmed he was in good health.

Romualdez was transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory in Payatas last night, Monday, September 14, 2026.

He was initially taken to the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, but critics questioned why he was receiving special treatment.

Romualdez arrived at the Quezon City Jail at 10:50 PM; upon arrival, standard procedures were followed, including a health check and the taking of his mugshot.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed charges of plunder, graft, indirect bribery, and money laundering against Romualdez.

However, Romualdez insists that the allegations against him are false and denies having benefited from flood control funds.
